Spotlight: ColourPop Cosmetics

My first beauty company spotlight is on ColourPop. I had discovered them about two years ago via Instagram. There are a couple main reasons why ColourPop is one of my favorite brands.

They started in Los Angeles, California. I myself am from Southern California, located in a lesser known, but still known enough, area called Orange County (thanks to the shows "The OC", "The Real Housewives of Orange County", and "Arrested Development"). Naturally I could appreciate a company local to my own area.

AND

They are cheap. Like, so cheap you wonder why and how they could possibly be as low priced as they are (which we will get to later in this post)

You may ask, if they're cheap, are the products of decent quality?

My answer to that is yes. A huge YES.

ColourPop is known for their Super Shock Shadows, which are individual eyeshadows with a matte, satin, ultra glitter or ultra metallic finish. Each SSS (as they are lovingly abbreviated to) starts at $6. I do love the Super Shock Shadows, but my absolute favorite product ColourPop puts out are their liquid lipsticks, starting at just $7 a piece.

Seven dollars is doable, right?

Those liquid lipsticks are one of the best made lipsticks I have ever used. Seriously, I apply in the morning and after a 6 hour shift (because I don't work full-time!) at work, after sipping on my coffee, there is STILL lipstick on my lips. Granted, the color has faded just a bit after 6 or 7 hours of wear, but I've still got color on my lips. Enough that I probably only apply another coat halfway through my day. Which, I usually don't anyway, because by that time I am clocked out of work and I don't feel the need to impress anyone with makeup since I usually head home after work. BUT! Not only does the color stay for a long time, my lipstick doesn't flake! I will say, there are three different finishes, matte, satin, and blotted, and I prefer satin. I do wear blotted on occasion. The satin finish is beautiful, stays for hours, and doesn't flake. That is exactly what I am looking for in a lipstick. So, for the price, I am faithful to my ColourPop liquid lipsticks. I will share my favorite lipstick colors in another post.

The one thing that I wanted to bring up about ColourPop is how quickly they put out their makeup. More specifically, their eyeshadow palettes. I'm talking a new collection every week. This has left many to discuss why and how exactly ColourPop is able to do this, even with a discussion on Reddit on if ColourPop is owned by The Illuminati (no, they're not! But there is a reason why this is happening!)

Basically, ColourPop is owned by siblings John and Laura Nelson, who own the company Seed Beauty. Seed Beauty is the parent company of ColourPop, as well as other beauty brands, such as Kylie Cosmetics and KKW Beauty (you know, the Jenner/Kardashian family!) Seed Beauty is a descendant of Spatz Labratories, a makeup company owned by John and Laura's father. Seed Beauty is known as a "beauty incubator", meaning, it has everything under one roof- from manufacturing to venture capital - and are able to produce their products quickly and efficiently. Another reason ColourPop has left people to wonder how the brand was able to come into popularity is because the founders purposely did not put themselves out there in terms of marketing. People were puzzled at who the mysterious founders of this indie brand may be. Well, they left it to the beauty influencers of social media to do the selling and talking for them. Needless to say, this tactic has worked out exceptionally well for them.

ColourPop has collaborated with some noteworthy beauty influencers such as ilovesarahii, Karrueche Tran, Kathleen Lights, Becky G, as well as Disney.

ColourPop has just recently started selling in stores such as Ulta and Sephora, but the best way to find all of the products the brand has to offer is on their website.

You can see for yourself how great ColourPop is at colourpop.com.
